Initial Project Proposal Feedback

Through feedback from my tutors and peers, I have been able to more clearly identify my areas of interest and chosen final major project idea. The initial feedback session helped me to put across my idea to others, it also helped me to get feedback about my idea and how it can progress. In my initial research proposal, I identified two possible lines of interest, the main “praise of engineer’s” idea and also the mention of another possible line of interest surrounding my fashion photography. It became apparent to my tutors and peers that I showed real passion and drive for the “praise of engineers” brief; from this I decided to narrow my idea down to this purely. From the tutors and peers, I was given relevant names of photographers of which I should research. This feedback was vital for my progression because I was able to absorb elements of the groups knowledge to gain relevant lines of research within my area of practice.

Another point that I took from the feedback session is that I need to decide on certain aspects within the project such as whether I should focus on photographing just one forge or a number of forges. I need to question the validity of my initial proposal to see if it would be viable for me to travel the UK, photographing more than one forge. The session also brought to my attention the chosen equipment that I will be using, the use of the Rolleiflex medium format camera may be more suitable for this brief due to me photographing the praise of age old techniques using an antique camera such as the Rolleiflex. Overall, the first feedback session has really helped me to finalise certain aspects of my idea, I now feel confident and very enthusiastic in the progression of this body of work.

My next blog post will be my revised project proposal, after feedback from my peers.
